We might not be here. There is no need to make that sound solemn. It is simply a fact: we might not exist, yet we do.

And if we are here, a possibility appears.

Not an obligation to do great things. Not a demand to be the protagonist. Not even the need to always step in.

Only the possibility of noticing. Of perceiving where we are, what is happening, and how we want to take part.

Sometimes it will be our turn to act. Other times, to accompany. Other times, to stay in the background. And other times, simply to do nothing.

But there is an important difference between doing nothing because we have chosen to and doing nothing because we moved through the situation on autopilot.

Perhaps living more fully has less to do with doing more things, and more with inhabiting more consciously the ones we already do.

Not passing through life as a tourist. Not always watching from the outside. Being present enough to choose, at least now and then, what part we want to play.

We might not be here. But we are. And since we are, we can give ourselves permission to take part.
